The ASIAC is an organization that facilitates overseas adoptions and brings adoptees together to socialize. The ASIAC allowed Saroo to connect with children from the Kolkata orphanage that took him in, all of whom were happy with their new circumstances.

Indian Cultural Society

The Indian Cultural Society is a Hobart-based organization for people of Indian descent. Saroo and his parents attended Indian Cultural Society dinners and dances until they felt singled out for being a mixed-race family.

Indian Society for Sponsorship and Adoption (ISSA)

The ISSA runs the Kolkata-based adoption agency that facilitated Saroo’s adoption in 1987. Saroo later donated money to support the ISSA in hopes of helping children find loving homes. The organization’s motto is: “Somewhere a child is waiting. Somewhere a family is waiting. We at ISSA bring them together” (133).
