Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Chapters 27-31 Summary & Analysis

Chapter 27 Summary

Harry, Ron, and Hermione ride the dragon as it flies farther and farther away from London, and when it’s safe to jump from its back, they leap into a lake. They realize that they have the Horcrux, but no way to destroy it without Gryffindor’s sword. Harry has another vision of Voldemort interrogating Griphook, who admits that Harry and his friends took “a s-small golden c-cup” (549) from the Lestrange’s vault. Voldemort flies into a rage and wonders if Harry “[knows] about the others” (549). In the vision, Voldemort thinks about the remaining Horcruxes: his snake Nagini and something hidden at Hogwarts. Harry comes out of the vision and tells Ron and Hermione that “[Voldemort] knows, and he’s going to check where the others are” (552). They realize they must get to Hogwarts fast before the Horcrux hidden there can be moved.

Chapter 28 Summary

Harry, Ron, and Hermione appear in Hogsmeade, and their arrival sets off an alarm. Death Eaters rush out of the Three Broomsticks and begin to search for him. Suddenly, a door opens on a side street, and a voice calls him inside and orders him to “keep the Cloak on” and “keep quiet” (557).
